6.1.1 Awards are valid for one year from the date of issue. Your airline ticket or partner voucher must be issued before the Award expires.
6.1.2 All Voyager Awards may be exchanged for a confirmed round-trip flight, class upgrade, a special event or activity, or discounted accommodation and car rental Awards as made available by South African Airways and Voyager Partners and described in the Partner Award charts in the Voyager Programme Guide.
6.1.3 South African Airways is the sole authority with respect to the redemption and/or issuance of Voyager Awards.
6.1.4 Voyager and Award tickets are not redeemable for cash or any other consideration. Awards or Miles may not be sold, bought or bartered. If determined that any Awards or airline tickets have been obtained in this manner, they will be deemed void and the passenger will have the option of purchasing a ticket for the reserved flight(s).
6.1.5 The member can make use of the Mileage Purchase Option if they are short of Miles for an Award. The member may purchase up to 15% of Miles needed for an Award at the cost of R250 per 1 000 Miles. Payment has to be made by credit card.
6.1.6 The member may request an Award for personal use or anyone else they designate. However, the member bears the sole responsibility for the use of the Awards.
6.1.7 Voyager Awards and tickets are not transferable. Once issued, Voyager reserves the right to request proof of identification.
6.1.8 No Award disputes will be considered unless notified in writing, within 90 days of the date the Award was issued. A signed, written request, along with a copy of the member’s ID or passport must be sent to SAA Voyager Programme Audit Division, Isando, South Africa, 1600. No telephonic or e-mail requests will be accepted.
6.2 Award Seat Availability
6.2.1 All Awards are subject to capacity control and/or blackout periods (on partner airlines), and may be subject to change without prior notice.
6.2.2 Seats for Awards may not be available on all flights, and may only be booked in certain classes.
6.3 Requesting Awards
6.3.1 Awards may be redeemed telephonically by calling 0860 900 CALL (2255). Please ensure you have the following: Voyager membership number and PIN, type of Award and reservation details.
6.3.2 Awards are issued on receipt of a signed written request, which can be mailed, faxed or e-mailed to the nearest Voyager Contact Centre. Awards may also be redeemed online at www.flysaa.com.
6.3.3 To prevent unauthorised issuing of Awards, a copy of the member’s ID or passport must accompany the signed written Award request.
6.3.4 If a member is legally incompetent, their legal guardian must sign for the Award request.
6.3.5 To obtain an Awards within 14 days of the travel date, the member will be required to pay the relevant expediting fees. (Lifetime Platinum and Platinum Members do not pay expiditing fees.) To facilitate the payment of the amount, a completed and signed credit card authorisation form must accompany the Award request before the Award will be processed. These are obtained by e-mail or fax from any Voyager Contact Centre. This rule does not apply when Awards are requested telephonically, or online at www.flysaa.com.
6.3.6 The Member must have accrued sufficient Voyager Miles for the Award required. The relevant number of Miles will be withdrawn from the member’s account in accordance with the Award selected and described in the most recently published Awards Charts.
6.3.7 Most Awards are automated. Once the Miles are withdrawn from the member’s Voyager account, the relevant details are inserted into the reservation system’s reference. However, car rental, wine tour and Sabi Sabi Awards are not automated and certificates should be requested from Voyager before the member contacts the relevant partner. Original certificates must be presented when collecting car rentals, reporting for wine tours or upon check-in at Sabi Sabi.
6.4 Reservations for Awards
6.4.1 The person travelling or making the reservation for an Award:
• must notify South African Airways or their travel agent that they are redeeming Miles for an Award when making the relevant reservation with South African Airways.
• must provide the member’s Voyager number to the company providing the relevant service to them to record with the reservation.
6.5 Issuing Award tickets
6.5.1 Within South Africa, any travel agent with access to the Galileo Central Reservation system or any South African Airways ticketing office may issue Award airline tickets for South African Airways. However, travel agents cannot make reservations or issue Voyager Partner airline tickets - only South African Airways offices can issue these.
6.5.2 Outside South Africa, only South African Airways ticketing offices are authorised to issue South African Airways and Partner Award airline tickets. (Not all airports outside South Africa have ticketing facilities, especially where South African Airways employs another airline to render services at the airports on behalf of South African Airways).
6.5.3 Members must settle all relevant airport taxes and any additional relevant fees that are due for payment when collecting their airline ticket.
6.6 Flight routings applicable to Awards
6.6.1 All flight Awards are issued for confirmed round-trip or open-jaw journeys (return is from a different city than the initial outbound destination - e.g. if you fly from Johannesburg to London, use ground transportation to Paris and return from Paris to Johannesburg by air). Subject to applicable airline terms and conditions.
6.6.2 Members may choose to travel on a one-way basis, but Mileage for the return portion will be forfeited, except for valid one-way Upgrade Awards. These destinations will appear on the latest published one-way Upgrade Award chart.
6.6.3 Award tickets cannot be changed or endorsed by another carrier. Should members need to change flight routing, dates and zones, the Award needs to be reversed and re-issued for the new flight. The member will incur the relevant reversal fee. (refer “Change of Awards and re-deposit”).
6.6.4 Flight Awards are only issued between the two cities served, as defined in the published Award Charts, using the most direct route.
6.6.5 On regional (Africa and Indian Ocean Islands) and International airline Award tickets, one en-route stopover along the direct route is permitted, in addition to the point of turnaround.
6.7 Award Travel Conditions
6.7.1 Only one Voyager Award may be used per passenger, per flight, and Awards cannot be combined.
6.7.2 Voyager Awards may not be used with any other discount or promotion.
6.7.3 Flight Awards must be operated by the airline specified in the published Award charts.
6.7.4 In the event of flight cancellations:
• The passenger will be transferred to the next available flight with the Voyager airline Partner specified on the Award ticket.
